Make A Difference

Claremont Manor is a community of individuals who care not just about their own immediate world but also about the greater world around them. Many of our residents are active in the neighboring communities and are doing great works of charity. For years, door-to-door transportation services were severely lacking in the Claremont, La Verne, Pomona and San Dimas communities. Then along came Claremont Manor resident Mary Sandoe. Having grown up taking the bus and subway to school in Manhattan, Mary identified with the need for public transportation. With Mary’s vision and hard work, 'Get About Transportation' was created, offering door-to-door escorted transportation services to residents of the four-area retirement communities. Today, this treasured service provides more than 110,000 trips every year for older adults and disabled people.

Drs. Art and Felicia Soisson-Segal moved into Claremont Manor in October 2005 and have already made a difference in the life of our community. Both are licensed clinical social workers with a passion for the disabled. Felicia works for an organization that provides medical and emotional support to physically challenged children and their parents. Art has created his own website which teaches people coping skills for living with disabilities. He also assists with Claremont Manor’s 'Living with Change,' program which creates a supportive environment for residents who are going through a time of change in their lives. For our residents like Art and Felicia, retirement is no time to sit back and watch the world go by. It’s a time to help change the world.
